Joó Imola

Born into a family of musicians in Budapest, Imola Jóo studied the piano at the “Béla Bartók” Conservatory in Professor Zempléni´s class.

Following her graduation from the Budapest Music High School and her graduation from the Conservatory cum laude she continued her studies at the Vienna University of Music in Professor Hans Graf´s Concert Class.

She obtained her concert class diploma as well as her diploma in educational theory cum laude, the topic of her thesis being “The Kodály Method and its Meaning for the Pianist”.

Furthermore, she completed master classes in Paul Badura-Skoda´s class, among others. Since 1976, Imola Joó has been heading a Piano Preparatory Class at the Vienna University of Music.

Parallel to teaching, further milestones of her professional activity include presentations, workshops and master classes in Austria and around the world (Canada, Japan, South Korea, Hungary).

Several of her former students are already teaching at the University and renowned soloists themselves.

Imola Jóo performed in several concerts with the “Dinu Lipatti Symphonic Orchestra” in Satu Mare, Romania.

Recently she played in the Vienna Musikverein with the “K.u.K. Symphonic Orchestra”.

She recorded a CD in 2001, including works of Mozart, Liszt, Bartók, Kodály and Dieter Kaufmann, with a further CD with J. L. Dussek´s Piano Concerto in E flat major, op.15 (first recording) currently being in preparation.

In 2004, Imola Jóo has obtained her postdoctoral lecturing qualification, officially becoming a university lecturer.
